When carbon fiber first came to the automotive industry, it was quite a rare material, but its qualities quickly became obvious.
Its main feature, the strength to weight ration, is far better than steel or other materials used at the time, with the only drawback being the high cost.
Nowadays, carbon fiber is not so uncommon anymore, and with advances made in the field by manufacturers like BMW, the price is quickly dropping. BMW even proved that you can successfully use the CFRP composite to create a full passenger hub. In a few years, it will be possible to build vehicles almost completely out of carbon fiber.
