Sorry to do this to you guys but I feel that Tuningwerk is attracting us into a void of BMW tuning products, this time up it’s the 1 Series.
The new variation they’ve created is called the NR 1s. It makes no excuses about what it is. The 1 Series used as a base is one of the least loved BMWs out there.
That lackluster situation has set a fire of passion under its bonnet, all of which was unleashed by the German tuner.
The base can be any one of the versions 3.0 liter straight six cylinder engine that goes under the bonnet of anything between the 125i and 135i.
On top of that engine, Tuningwerk have their play and you can opt for twinscroll or Bi-Turbo forced induction and can produce between 237 and 430 horsepower.
Torque can also vary between 214 and 317 lb-ft of torque. This is if you want to keep within the German tradition for efficiency and such.
If you can do without the Technical Control Board certificate for RS-Sport, Tuningwerk can wind the power up to 550 horsepower.
Variety seems to be the main course in 0 to 62 acceleration and top speed as well. The first can vary between 6.1 to 4.2 seconds and the latter can be 147 or 205 mph.
The usual limitations apply, tires and all that boring stuff. What is interesting is that Tuningwerk offers the NR 1s package for diesel powered cars.
No more than 250 horsepower and 346 lb-ft of torque is available there but that’s still a respectable performance figure.
