They don’t mess about with the motor shows, they don’t give the styling too much attention but they do get down to making performance and handling packages.

Further more, in the case of the F10 5 Series they’re willing to demonstrate just what they do as simply and efficiently as possible.

This time, they’ve chosen to demonstrate the BMW 525d xDrive’s new power kit. Since this is a power kit, there’s no nonsense talk of body kits or wheels.

All they do is make a “before and after” video during Autobahn testing of the acceleration the diesel 5er can provide in standard and modified trim.

The standard BMW 525d xDrive develops 218 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque from a 2.0 liter turbocharged four cylinder engine.

That same powerplant, but with a Hartge chip, now churns out 258 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque which makes quite the difference.

We’re not told about the classic measure of 0 to 62 acceleration or just what sort of top speed the F10 BMW 5 Series could reach upon receiving these mods.

Instead, Hartge is once again a practical tuner and gives us a video of a real world test, acceleration between 80 and 180 km/h. That’s about 50 to 112 mph.

The result speaks for itself. The standard car completes this sprint in 20.92 seconds and the modified one manages to make quite the difference at 15.91 seconds.

5 Seconds is enormous in a quick overtaking situation at these speeds.
