In such cases, enthusiasts look to the aftermarket, hoping that tuners and coachbuilders do something different to improve the appearance and performance of the car. AC-Schnitzer has done just that with the BMW M440i. The company has offered a few tweaks to enhance the car’s aesthetics.

Updates include the AC Schnitzer front spoiler, front splitter, side skirts, a rear roof spoiler, rear skirt protection foil, and the tuner’s badges spread throughout the vehicle. The brand also offers a set of new wheels for those who are interested in different designs.

Concerning performance, AC Schnitzer has tuned the BMW M4 engine to produce 420 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque. The regular powertrain is only good for 374 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. In number terms, that is a 36 hp increase and a more than generous addition to the torque range. The German tuner can also tweak the BMW 430i and increase its power from 258 hp to 300 hp. 

AC Schnitzer also offers a new stainless steel exhaust system with various tip designs. Consumers can choose from carbon fiber or black chrome tips.

There are no reports with regards to the price, but it is natural for tuned vehicles to cost well above the top-of-the-line variant.

Called Tune it! Safe!, the vehicle resembles a police car, and it certainly has plenty of power to keep up with the demands of the job.

Equipped with a 2.0 liter engine, the car is capable of delivering some 294 Hp and 420 Nm of torque (after some AC Schnitzer tuning, of course). That makes for an acceleration time to 100 km/h of 5.7 seconds, and it goes up to a limited 250 km/h.

The showpiece of this build is the aesthetics, with AC Schnitzer providing most of the body panels. Some external help was needed, and the police lights were provided by Hella, but overall, the hand of the guys from AC Schnitzer is obvious.

There are a few police cars out there that instill fear into most motorists, and I do believe this BMW 4 Series would fit right in there.

While the info is not yet complete, the aftermarket specialists have been generous with the information, especially considering that the project is still a ways out.

So what did the tuner disclose so far? For starters, under the hood of the F32 BMW 435i they plan to fiddle with the engine, taking it to 360 Hp, while the 428i gets 294 Hp and the 420d sees 218 Hp. To complement the engine tune, AC Schnitzer also decided to use a sports exhaust system.

Stability will be brought to the F32 BMW 4 Series by a new racing suspension kit and lowering springs meant to reduce the ride height by 25mm. Performance-wise, this is pretty much all that AC Schnitzer disclosed so far, but some aesthetic features will also make it into the final form of the project.

Of these visual features, the tuner mentions new wheels and several interior trims, with the aero body kit still not detailed.
