The sense making rumors about the F30 BMW M3 getting a twin-turbo V6 engine instead of the current naturally aspirated V8 engine have created a special opportunity.

First of all, it’s a good time to appreciate the E92 M3 in its standard trim with all its naturally aspirated cylinders in shape.

E92 BMW M3

There’s quite a bit of fun to be had in considering the tuned up versions of the BMW M3, particularly this one made by Dinan tuning.

Unlike most interesting versions of the tuned E92 BMW M3 options so far, this one isn’t really easy to predict what’s going on under the bonnet.

Instead of a turbocharger, supercharger, ECU tune or other relatively minute tweaks like that. Dinan actually went on to give the M3 an engine swap.

E92 BMW M3

The new powerplant is borrowed from its big brother, it’s the previous M5’s 5 liter V10 engine. Oh and they haven’t really left it standard.

It was bored out to 5.7 liters and it now develops 628 horsepower. That’s right folks, they’ve managed to put 10% more power than the current BMW M5 in the current BMW M3.

Alongside the added power, Dinan have decided to make sure the E92 BMW M3 can handle it. The chassis will easily take it but there’s still the question of balance.

E92 BMW M3

That intrinsic BMW feeling will most likely be retained as the emphasis on losing weight from the front end and they’re struggling to keep it as close to 50-50 as possible.
