With the inaugural fair of Paris Photo that started in Hollywood, BMW decided to showcase the BMW M1 art car from 1979. The creation of Andy Warhol, this M1 gives “a vivid depiction of speed. If a car is really fast, all contours and colors will become blurred.”

Besides the BMW M1, sixteen more exhibits will be displayed as part of the Art Car Collection. These bear the signatures of artists like Frank Stella, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, David Hockney, Jenny Holzer, Olafur Eliasson and Jeff Koons.

Car Art has seen a rise in interest from official high profile museums like the Guggenheim and the Louvre, with exhibits showing the cultural and historical development of art, design, and technology.

BMW has never shied away from promoting young artists, funding scholarships and furthering photography as a form of art. They rarely refused sensible requests from artists around the world and provided access into their plants for photos sessions.
