We’re told it’s tuning, there’s a tuning name involved in the equation but somehow it feels quite a lot different from what the traditional concept.

Here’s what happened, the guys over at MR Car Design decided to give the E64 BMW M3 CSL a makeover but they realized that visual tweaks were not going to be enough.

MR Car Design E64 BMW M3 CSL

In order to achieve the desired results, they contracted REIL Performance to handle the upgrade procedure and boy did they deliver.

The headlines claim a final weight of 2.778 pounds and that the 3.2 liter straight six cylinder engine now develops a grand total of 392 horsepower.

Achieving the engine upgrade didn’t require too much as everything was achieved with an ECU upgrade and a sportier exhaust system.

MR Car Design E64 BMW M3 CSL

The weight drop would then go on by giving the E64 BMW M3 CSL the most tortured diet ever available on the market. Carbon fiber panels replace just about everything on the standard car.

Even the additional rear spoiler won’t add in on the weight. The stripped out interior was completely gutted out and the nearly livable with seats were replaced by full on racing buckets.

An upgraded braking system now lies underneath the lightweight BBS racing alloys and the custom Yokohama tires.

MR Car Design E64 BMW M3 CSL

Some people at MR Car Design claim that the tuning they’ve done to these bits and the suspension components will actually improve the handling now.

You have to picture the fact that even though there was a rollcage added to the lightweight car, it still lost over 200 lbs off its final weight.

We have new cars, new technologies, new upgrades and generally new performance available to us at any moment. But what happens when you want to fit some of those to an older car?

This is exactly what G-Power have done. On the verge of a new BMW M3 being introduced with the F30 generation, they’ve turned their attention to the E46.

G-Power E46 BMW M3

They’ve kept the same basic 3.2 liter straight six cylinder engine but beyond that I very much doubt things look familiar to anybody.

Using a supercharged kit, upgraded intakes, a revised exhaust and a remapped ECU that engine now produces 450 horsepower 339 lb-ft of torque.

For those who aren’t keen on “old” car specs, that’s a boost of 107 horses and 70 lb-ft of torque over the original.

G-Power E46 BMW M3

The result of this upgrade is fairly easy to spot. According to the German tuner it now takes the E46 M3 14.6 seconds to complete the sprint from 0 to 124 mph.

Since they’ve also been kind enough to remove the top speed governor, the G-Power E46 BMW M3 can now hit a maximum of 186 mph.

In order to reign in the power, an adjustable coil-over suspension goes on together with some upgraded brakes. The latter are so ferocious they need 20 inch wheels to fit over the calipers.

G-Power E46 BMW M3

Michelin Pilot Sport tires are the last technical upgrade we get to see on the G-Power E46. Otherwise, they’ve kept things clean and tried to make the car look as much as possible like the CSL version.
