Not to mention that a proper exhaust system for an M BMW must have a better flow than the factory one. The first logical upgrade is the M Performance exhaust, where the BMW engineers shook their hands with the Akrapovic specialists, to obtain that specific sound.

However, there could be a better option: the Supersprint exhaust. How does it sound a German car with an Italian exhaust? Well, you can listen it in the following film, uploaded on youtube by the exhaust manufacturer.

The system features two selectable modes, depending on the driver’s mood: silent and loud. A switch opens and closes the exhaust valves, either letting the noise out, or dissipating it into the silencers. The result is like having two cars in one: a silent Bimmer, for cruising on the autobahn, and a loud beast, for the days when you feel a little Schumi. Take your foot off the gas, and you’ll hear the pops in the scariest way possible.

The whole system consists of an all-new downpipe with a less restrictive catalytic converter, front and center pipes, and a pair of rear exhausts, with 4 chromed tailpipes, 80 mm in diameter each. The cost of the entire system is 5,000 €.

Now they have released full specs of the exhaust with pictures and video, and it seems each segment of the exhaust has several options, giving each owner the chance to customize it.

First off, you can get 2 options of the system with a catalytic converter and one without. The first catted version features the converter on the front pipes. As the system throws off the O2 sensor, a check engine LED will appear on your dashboard, so this version is best used with a ECU upgrade that removes said light. If you don’t desire the ECU upgrade, Supersprint can also provide a solution.

On the second version, the catalytic converter was fitted on the downpipes. This option will not throw off the sensors, and it will still improve the air flow through the engine. The downpipes can go together with either resonating or non-resonating front pipes.

Finally, you can get the exhaust system without a catalytic converter. This is the version to choose if you don’t really care for CO2 and want to get the most out of Supersprint’s creation. Again, you might want to get rid of the O2 sensors issue, and you either opt for the Supersprint solution (using microcats) or by deactivating it with an ECU upgrade.

The center segment of the exhaust comes with or without an X pipe. Depending on this choice, your F10 M5 will play a different tune. At the end of the system, you have the choice of three mufflers: Sport, Race and Valved.
