American tuner Velos Designwerks have just introduced their package for the F10 BMW M5. That’s good. What’s not so good is how similar it looks to their E92 M3.

I know there’s something known as brand identity. I know that Velos probably want their products to stand out as “their products” but that’s not right.

To me, the whole point of tuning is that the car built is “mine” not theirs. It’s not BMW’s, it’s not the tuner’s and it’s definitely not the same as the neighbor’s.

There is some consolation in the fact that the recipe used on the E92, and now on the F10 BMW M5, produces a good looking machine.

Once again, the paint scheme features a white coat highlighted by a few black accents such as the front lip, the side view mirrors and the kidney grilles.

The brake calipers are still painted a rather flashy orange and the alloy wheels are similarly based around a five spoke design.

These ones are sourced from HRE. What is a bit more annoying than the similarity is the fact that Velos Designwerks still didn’t mention what tires are used.

Another lack of information approach is used on the new rear diffuser and “sports exhaust” setup that goes under the back of the M5.

You’d imagine people would be interested in details like this. It doesn’t matter anyway if your car is easy to lose in the car park.

It is a bit of a shame that they’re only taking an interest in the E92 M3 as it’s getting ready to leave the scene and be replaced, but some charming products do appear.

Miami based tuning company, Velos Designwerks, had a proper look around the E92 BMW M3 and found a few areas it could be improved.

The starting place for the changes is unusual for a street tuning company. They started off by fitting Brembo brakes, something a racing team would do.

The E92 BMW M3’s standard suspension is replaced by a lowering kit from KW, the V3, obviously. This is the system which allows lowering and raising of ride height as well as stiffness adjustment.

After that, the American tuner heads for less surprising teritory as the 4.0 liter V8 receives an ESS VT625 supercharger kit.

This system creates so much boost that the powerplant now delivers an extra 200 horsepower. This sort of a difference obviously creates new necessities.

Somehow, Velos Designwerks worked out that we don’t really care about the list of supporting mods and are just happy to look at the new body kit.

Those new carbon fiber bits, together with the dark bronze custom lightweight forged alloy wheels go together beautifully underneath the white paint.

I’d say the Velos Designwerks E92 BMW M3 package came together beautifully. I only wish they said what tires they’re running it on.

Supreme Power Tuning (who?) have recently presented a new makeover for the E70 BMW X5M. There’s not too much creativity involved but there’s plenty of mediation.

The tuning company simply got every other tuner together to work on their new project and then checked out what resulted. Things are looking pretty good, even if a bit underpowered.

When it leaves the factory, the E70 BMW X5M manages to produce 560 horsepower and 501 lb-ft of torque from a 4.4 liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine.

That’s plenty fast for just about anything on the road but for something that’s been tuned by a bunch of big names getting together, that sounds like a lack of effort.

Regardless, the E70 BMW X5M gets a new exterior look courtesy of a body kit set up by Vorsteiner aerodynamics. Their VS110 22 inch alloy wheels come in with a similar role.

Obviously they look great but they also cut back on the unsprung weight while making room for the new Brembo brakes that were fitted to the Supreme X5M.

Factor in a Vorsteiner rear diffuser and a catback exhaust system and you’ve pretty much got everything listed that makes up the new car.

It’s nice to see companies work together isn’t it? Only question left is where on Earth is Supreme Power’s work in all of his. You know, aside from placing a few phone calls.

Having said that, it’s tricky to look at a previous model one which receives some tuning from whatever company and say they had a bad starting point.

In the case of the Americans at K3 Project, the E60 M5 starter is pretty much one of the finest of the breed. It’s possibly the most visceral one of the lot.

The Florida-based outfit didn’t stray too far from the tree either. They kept things about as simple as BMW’s discrete styling could a while back.

They’ve fiddled about with the way the E60 M5 looks but in the end it’s very easy to spot it as the same car with a few personal touches rather than a toy rocket drawn up by a child in NFS.

Carbon fiber bits such as a front lip, large air intake trims and corner spoilers make their way in and bring along a diffuser for the back.

The most dramatic change the E60 BMW M5 gets from K3 is a set of 20 inch wheels from a set they call Projekt 1. Somebody isn’t great at spelling it seems.

Anyway, the wheels are stunning but the tires they ride on seem even more impressive as they are 255 sections for the front and 305 at the back.

That’s a whole lot of rubber, even if you do have more than 500 horsepower to tame coming from a 5.0 liter naturally aspirated V10.
