Despite what is undoubtedly a fact, I’m calling stuff to attention when it comes to this particular F10 BMW M5. While it’s decked out like one, it’s not a patrol car.

Unfortunately, it’s not one of Alex Roy’s Police conversion vehicles either. This is a true product of tuning showoff as it will remain a showcar.

There’s no busting robbers going on, this will not be used for catching folks on high speed runs round the Autobahn. What this car is actually going to be used for is unpleasant.

According to BMW, the special Polizei spec F10 M5 will spend the rest of its days as part of the assembly at the Welt Museum in Munich, Germany.

Beyond the special livery, the added signal lights and all that Police fear factor (not that anybody would break the law while driving) there’s something special about this car that isn’t immediately apparent.

It is displayed in the hometown of the company yet it was based off a US spec model since it does come with a manual transmission.

At least the speedometer still reads in km/h rather than the imperialist mph situation. BMW still own the vehicle and while it is on display at the Museum, long term plans are uncertain.

Eventually, the car could hit active service or it could tour the world for a couple of motor shows.

Heck, even the German Police is lovable, they’re the only kind of cops that don’t pull you over for speeding but rather pull alongside and tell you to cool it off before your speedometer falls off.

So what happens when all of these great German “institutions” come together? Well, something quite interesting actually.

We get a tuning car that’s not meant to race in NFS games, it won’t outrun the cops and it won’t be a bad boy.

It’s actually a 1 Series tuner that will be fighting with the Police in order to roam the Autobahn doing just what we’ve shown you earlier.

The model here is a BMW 123d and it is originally powered by a 2.0 liter diesel. Don’t think it’s a slouch though.

Thanks to some fiddling around by AC Schnitzer, that engine now produces 241 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque.

That should be plenty for most cruising opportunities, even on the Autobahn. Don’t think the Polizei just wanted a cooler car to come up with this.

They’ve actually partnered up with the German Ministry of Transport to create a campaign called “Tune It! Save!”. The aim is to focus on proper tuning of a car.

Apparently the idea is to discourage poorly built shed cars being pushed to or beyond their limit by the people who build them.

An admirable idea and we’d say and hope it gets implemented elsewhere as well. Even though not every country in the world has speed enticing roads, the cops could use faster cars.
