The guys at Sportec in particular are the ones we can be thankful to for this. They couldn’t escape the sensible nature of their nation so they didn’t go overboard.

The body kit remains the same as the original, the BMW X6 SP6X looks a lot like the standard model, apart from the wheels and paint scheme.

A new black paint was required and mixing it with traditional BMW racing stripes produced a pleasant result. No world changing has happened but there’s a clearly distinctive presence.

Under the bonnet, Sportec have focused on being annoyingly considerate by offering a tweak for only one of the engines available.

It’s the 3.0 liter inline six cilinder diesel. When that version of the X6 leaves the factory, it’s pushing out 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque.

Nice round figures which have been described as some of the best delivered in the business. The tuner then went on to offer some boost up to 370 horses and 553 lb-ft of torque.

We’re hoping there’s still some reasonable smoothness but that extra performance does sound like a lot of fun. Having 70 extra ponies does give the X6 an improved pace.

Particularly, the BMW X6 SP6X can manage 0-62 mph in just 5.4 seconds (1.1 seconds quicker) and the top speed goes from 130 mph to 164 mph.

It also lost some 88 lbs thanks to those massive OZ 20 inch lightweight alloy.

As far as our memory serves us, the E71 BMW X6 hasn’t been their favorite toy to play around with. In preparation for the Essen Motor Show they worked over the unusual X6.

Since the show’s popularity has wildly expanded over the recent years, this may not be a good way round to go and unveil your tweak on the SAC.

After all, it’s the place where other tuning companies from Germany or the world all over will showcase some incredibly high performing versions of the M powered X6.

You wouldn’t want to compete against that. To some degree, Manhart Racing are on the same page with that decision. They didn’t go alongside predictable lines.

They did not opt for a higher powered X6M. They did not fit sports suspension that’s basically rock solid and nor did they fit a bulging body kit.

Instead, they completely trolled those expecting a million horsepower X6M as they allied with the Germans from Wuppertal to creat the Dirt Edition.

Once you hear the name the appearance becomes less surprising. The car itself, the E71 X6 M remains standard, apart from the wheel setup.

Off-road tires and wheels go on, as do some extended mud guards. Just to keep the trolling effect going, a new vinyl wrap goes on.

It now genuinely looks like some of the toys I had as a kid since it has the US Army symbol on it.

The M division prepped version is also a big hit with the specialist tuner so it is pretty much impossible to ignore. The basic cars may be related, but the AC Schnitzer makeovers seem to be completely different.

There’s a generally familiar look but the details are much more focused on this version. The X6 M doesn’t have the Falcon’s compromised exterior.

Everything here is styled as form dictates in order to achieve the best type of performance and aerodynamic efficiency. The paint and alloy wheels sum up what you can specify in terms of looks.

AC Schnitzer have setup the car for a blistering performance by revising the aerodynamics, the suspension setups and so on yet they aren’t ready to tell us what’s in store with the engine.

The S63 4.4 liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine has been out for quite a while now and we thought they had sufficient time to produce a remarkably fast car by now.

We’re willing to cut them some slack because of the recent performance they managed in the 2012 DTM season but as that’s over now they should chop to it.

It’s not like the X6 is an unpopular car and it’s certainly not that the X6 M is the sort of car that rich punters don’t want to have one that’s faster and more aggressive looking.

Meanwhile, in the real world, people are appreciating the brand for things that are somewhat less fast, less sporty and less freshly introduced.

Regardless of the situation, the BMW X6 is quite the strong selling vehicle and it’s only natural to want to make a custom version for your own enjoyment.

So many zeros stuck on a car which is supposed to be sporty, sexy and still have a high driving position and an off-road look.

Within tuning this car, it’s fairly predictable to understand why AC Schnitzer tuned it the way they did. The German specialist didn’t bother too much with the off-road aspect.

It’s all about the sporty side of the equation. Once they were done with the 22 inch alloy wheel selection and aerodynamic body kit, things were mostly sorted on the look.

The suspension was also sharpened up but the boring side of the story is that the diesel engines are the only ones getting a performance tweak.

In AC Schnitzer form the BMW X6 xDrive30d develops 272 horsepower now whereas the xDrive35d is pushing out 310 horsepower.

All of these upgrades come in a nicely obvious packaged German form with some of the most decent or most overwhelming exterior packages.

Just in order to complete the whole deal, the E71 BMW X6 Falcon kit also comes with a considerable warranty which stretches up to two years or 100.000 km.
