Showcased for the first time outside of BMW, the Gran Lusso Concept car was put on display for all to admire.

Born out of a traditional partnership between the German car maker and designer Pininfarina, the BMW Gran Lusso is a beautiful blend of what both companies have to offer. The Gran Lusso manages to represent the nice Italian design without losing any of the BMW heritage.

Designed for the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, the BMW Gran Lusso concept didn’t manage to grab the big prize, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t turn heads. The real challenge was to keep the car as much a BMW as possible, while also allowing the Pininfarina design team to work as freely as possible.

The BMW Gran Lusso Concept is a very special vehicle, and those that managed to catch sight of it at the Goodwood Festival of Speed should have appreciated it.

It is a beautiful vehicle that exudes the Pininfarina style while still remaining a BMW at its heart. This was achieved by completely trusting Pininfarina with the design without the fear of transforming the Gran Lusso into something completely detached from the German car maker.

The resulted car is best described by the simple phrase “one plus one makes three”, outlining the fact that the BMW Gran Lusso Coupe is more that the sum of the two world famous companies. Now we can admire the German car in its full Italian elegance, after the official unveiling.

Being this year’s BMW representative for the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, the Gran Lusso Coupe is a worthy successor to the 2012 Zagato Coupe. BMW has always made good looking cars, but they also seems too calculated, in typical German style.

On the other hand, the Italians have built their cars with spirit more than anything else. Like reliability. So, if you were to cross the high quality manufacturing of BMW with the great design of Pininfarina, what would you get?

We already know what: a jewel like the BMW Gran Lusso Coupe. While still retaining the basic design of the BMW 6 Series Coupe, Pininfarina worked wonders with both interior and exterior, adding that special touch of elegance they have accustomed us to.

Of course, BWM will be there with a new car. And it will be designed by the legends of Pininfarina.

Based on the German company’s 6 Series Gran Coupe, Pininfarina designed it as a high end luxury vehicle, while powered by a V12 engine. The power output is yet undisclosed, but the unveiling is not that far away.

From what we can glean from the teaser photos, it seems that Pininfarina decided on a longer wheelbase, while the hood is long and sleek, with a slightly sloped roof and short overhangs.

As far as the interior goes, no data or pictures were released, but since the 6 Series was already quite good, we expect the BMW Gran Lusso Coupe to be breath taking. All BMW had to say about it was it is a “blend of contemporary elegance and luxury.”
