What? BMW decided to build a shooting brake version of the i8? Not quite, but if they would, it should definitely look like that!

In fact, this is only a photoshop render of the RainPrisk artist. But let’s admit it looks divine! Besides the completely redesigned rear, the Shooting Brake i8 comes with almost the same design of the coupe, from the front end to the B-pillar. The differences are at the wider wheel arches, which now look more aggressive, painted in matte black. To match them, a completely redesigned set of wheels, with seven double spokes has been fitted. They share the same black color with the wheel arches, side skirts and front lip, but they’re shiny to contrast with the matte finish of the rest of elements. The suspension has been lowered, offering an even more aggressive stance.

If we would have to dream, and we love to, this would be the perfect competition for the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso, while still maintaining excellent fuel efficiency. For this, it should be helped by the retuned 740e iPerformance powertrain. We’re talking about a 2-liter turbo engine offering 258 hp (that could easily be upgraded to 300 hp) and a 68 hp electric motor, which could be replaced with the one from the i8, capable of 131 hp. Think how fast could the 1.5 tones i8 accelerate, if the original hybrid system is able to take the 2 tones of the 7 series to 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds! Maybe the BMW engineers hear us and this dream could become reality.

Until then, we’ll have to stick to the original i8 powertrain, the first plug-in built by BMW, which is also a masterpiece. Featuring a 1.5 liter TwinPower Turbo, three cylinder engine capable of 231 hp, and an electric motor developing 131 hp, it helps the car accelerate to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds, reaching 250 km/h.

When it comes to BMWs, the artist really does a good job and has had quite a lot of ideas over the years, the latest of which is this four doors BMW i8.

Four door BMW i8 rendering

As with many of Theophilus’ creations, it is pretty much pointless to try and debate if they have some real utility, cause most of the time they are simply an exercise in imagination. And while the BMW i8 is a four seater, like pretty much most other sportscars out there, the back seats are rather useless.

But think for a second that these seats can actually accommodate someone with ease, how would a four door BMW i8 look like? Well, this rendering is realistic and quite well executed, and while there are almost no chances to see this one happen, we appreciate Theophilus’ effort.

Unless it’s an aftermarket project, we will not see such a BMW i8 courtesy of the car maker. There are, of course, some that might still argue it already is, considering that it is quite a fast car that handles well, but it is far from a race car. Even its sportscar status is still debated in certain circles.

In order to give a solid image of the build, the artist that went on and fiddled with the body panels. To accommodate the larger wheels, the wheel arches were altered, while some carbon fiber bits found themselves in the side skirts of the rear bumper.

In its stock form, nothing is really missing, and is as close to perfection as you can get. But even under these circumstances, there are those out there that are just itching to see the BMW i8 tuned. Alpha-N Performance seems to be ready to jump right on that, as the recent rendering they released suggests.

The tuned BMW i8 they present has minor alterations, with only a set of wheels and a rear wing added, but again, these are two modifications too much. Not to mention that BMW spent so much time in the wind tunnel fine tuning the aerodynamics of the hybrid i8 that the rear wing is most likely ruining all that effort. But it looks good.
