This time, though, it’s different. It’s a dynamic subject, a comparison, and today it won’t be any winner. At least, I will avoid to say my opinion, mainly because it’s a matter of taste. Anyway, the truth is that the 3 liter turbocharged engine sounds superb through any exhaust.

The verdict will be even more difficult, because of the celebrity of the three brands involved in this comparison. The first one is Akrapovic. I don’t know how exactly what’s the best way to describe this company, but, instead, I’ll say that, traditionally, they manufacture exhausts for motorcycles, and only recently they started working on automobiles. They’re best known for equipping a few teams from Moto GP, superbike and supersport. And, maybe the thing that no one knows, Akrapovic is a Slovenian brand!

Next – the world leader in sport exhausts. Their story is impressive: in 26 years, they managed to be present in 60 countries, starting from only 5 employees. In only three years from the beginning, the company built a production area of 12.000 square meters!

Finally, the last exhaust system comes from the Motorsport division of BMW. Yes, it’s the stock exhaust, and we know it’s an impressive sounding system.

Which one is the greatest, and more interesting – does it worth replacing the original exhaust system with an aftermarket one? You’ll decide!

If this will become reality, then my happymeter will blow! Will BMW launch an even sportier version than M2? And, if so, will it be named BMW M2 GTS? All the hints drive us to that possibility!

In few occasions, people from BMW said, unofficially, that a new, lighter version of the M2 model is currently under development. It could be a GTS, or even a CSL. No one knows, but everyone hopes it will bring extra horses, lesser weight and a more track-focused philosophy.

If this is true, what should we expect? First, as in the M4 GTS’ case, lighter body panels, made of carbon fiber. We can include here the engine bonnet, the roof, and the front splitter. This will also lower the center of gravity, promising a better handling. Onboard, a new pair of lighter seats and, generally, lighter materials, will drop a few kilograms. The same story repeats to the exhaust system, which could be made of titan.

Then, a proper aero package, featuring a large wing, designed to keep the car on track. The suspension will probably be adjustable, while the fading – free carbon – ceramic brakes will stop the car fast, even in the most demanding conditions.

It’s possible that the 3.0 liter turbocharged engine will raise its power to about 400 hp. In that case, we can expect to see a new Active M differential, developed to optimize the torque sent to the rear wheels.

There’s only one condition – that the rumors will come true. And if everything will prove to be more than a dream – I can’t wait to see what will be the M2 GTS’ time on Nordschleife!

One of the first mods to do when buying a car, is replacing its wheels. Not necessarily with larger ones, but preferable, with a lighter set. If they also add style, the better they are!

Since we presented you yesterday a combination between the German F87 M2 and the Italian Supersprint exhaust, which worked perfectly, allow us today to show you a a set of German wheels on a German car. How do you think they match?

Their name is Anniversary Evo, their diameter is 20 inch, and the design with thin spokes is as classy as it can be. Surely, Hamann will offer much more than only a set of wheels for the BMW M2. But they still keep it secret. However, based on their previous works of art, we can bet it’s a kit made of carbon fiber, which includes a new front splitter, continued with side skirts and a generously dimensioned rear diffuser. A big rear wing must also be part of the feast. You can probably buy them separately, as independent parts found in the official offer.

A lowering suspension kit could and probably will be added, bringing extra stability on track while improving the car’s stance on road. Hamann specialists will modify the 365 hp engine, bringing it to the vicinity of 400 hp and shortening the 0-100 km/h acceleration time from 4,1 seconds to (probably) 3.5 seconds. All of these with the help of the newly-developed exhaust.

The interior will be garnished with typically Hamann elements, including pedal set, knobs, shifter and door sills, personalized with the company’s logo.

What does it take to be a BMW M exhaust? The most important feature has to be the resistance to heat. Because the M division engines release very hot exhaust gas. Then, of course, the sound must be on par with the engine’s power. It should also improve the original exhaust’s note, to worth replacing it. And, let’s face it, this is a difficult set of tasks.

Not to mention that a proper exhaust system for an M BMW must have a better flow than the factory one. The first logical upgrade is the M Performance exhaust, where the BMW engineers shook their hands with the Akrapovic specialists, to obtain that specific sound.

However, there could be a better option: the Supersprint exhaust. How does it sound a German car with an Italian exhaust? Well, you can listen it in the following film, uploaded on youtube by the exhaust manufacturer.

The system features two selectable modes, depending on the driver’s mood: silent and loud. A switch opens and closes the exhaust valves, either letting the noise out, or dissipating it into the silencers. The result is like having two cars in one: a silent Bimmer, for cruising on the autobahn, and a loud beast, for the days when you feel a little Schumi. Take your foot off the gas, and you’ll hear the pops in the scariest way possible.

The whole system consists of an all-new downpipe with a less restrictive catalytic converter, front and center pipes, and a pair of rear exhausts, with 4 chromed tailpipes, 80 mm in diameter each. The cost of the entire system is 5,000 €.
