It’s not all that. In this particular case, the BMW 1 Series M Coupe, a car which really solicits your knowledge of compliments, receives a makeover from such a word.

That’s because it’s a particular word a German tuning company chose to go by. Probably not the best decision they ever made.

The name is actually quite romantic in its appearance. Schwaben is a region in Germany we usually refer to as Swabia since we are hopeless at understanding the language completely.

Folia is somewhat simpler a name to understand since it doesn’t sound impossible to get right and is quite close to “foil”.

The name of the tuner is important since the BMW 1 Series M Coupe receives a striking lime green foil wrap, costing €2.150 or about $2.850.

A few other mods are available though, most notably the performance changes. You can get more power and sharper handling.

A power kit for the 1 Series M Coupe that lifts the output from 335 to 402 horsepower. That’s a well worth it upgrade which costs €1.299 or 1.700 USD.

If we’re honest, the Bilstein sports suspension (€2.499/US$3.300) is a matter of taste, since there are no complaints with the factory setup.

The titanium exhaust system Schwabenfolia charge €2.299 or $3.000 is not to everybody’s taste but having a louder sports car which drops some weight isn’t something you’d normally say no to.

Finally, you can get custom coating for the wheels if you’re willing to dish out another €800/US$1.100.

Maybe they make exceptions for BMW or for their M Division products since Canadian wrap specialists Restyle IT were confronted with this one.

The owner apparently wants his BMW 1 Series M Coupe to stand out somewhat more than usual. The city of the affair isn’t known.

Regardless, it’s quite interesting to consider the northern country so overcrowded by BMW 1 Series M Coupe models that they’re starting to look alike.

Restyle IT went for a full wrap, leaving the whole of the car’s exterior in white and the roof now gets carbon fiber. The same exotic material is used for the side view mirrors.

White seems to be very in these days but I’m afraid I just don’t see it working with the 1M. Still, there’s not that much to chose from at BMW.

Restyle didn’t stop there. They did leave the exterior of the car pretty much unaltered apart from what we’ve already mentioned and then turned their attention to the interior.

Carbon fiber is once again present except this time it’s fake. Restyle IT did actually take care of it but they opted for foil.

There’s a nice effect going on with the dashboard of the 1 Series M Coupe and that typical BMW center console looks pretty good when it’s all carbon.

Too bad it’s not real, right?

ATT-TEC simply took on the 1 Series M Coupe and improved the bits that customers weren’t too happy about or areas where they wanted something extra.

The power was obviously at the top of the second list. The twin-turbocharged 3.0 liter straight six cylinder engine now has two stages of tune.

First, there’s a simple ECU upgrade which spools the engine up to 400 horsepower. The second package is a little more advanced but it does take the grunt up to 460 horses so it’s easy to justify.

The second package does include a larger intercooler, the fitting of a custom Akrapovic exhaust system and an even more aggressive remap of the ECU.

In terms of suspension, the BMW 1 Series M Coupe does excellent on a track and almost reasonable on a road. In hoping to make things better on both levels, ATT-TEC chose to fit a new setup altogether.

Obviously, the best aftermarket option so far is the KW adjustable coilover package which serves up more favorable ride options.

Out at the end of the day, ATT-TEC rounds up the entire package with a new set of 20 inch ADV1 5.0 TF wheels and some Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

You can nitpick, but it’s hard to find people who’ll believe the flaws you’ve found even with this sort of package.

A-Works are probably the least responsible of the lot. They decided to tune up the BMW 1 Series M Coupe. We had one cheap-ish sports car on the market that was brilliant and they’re taking it away.

Granted, they’re giving it back in better shape if you’re willing to pay for their package but really, there is a time when cost cutting needs to be heard of.

If you’re that rich, or that oblivious, A-Works do make a good case for themselves when it comes to upgrading the car, particularly for performance addicts.

They’ve fitted a new air filter, a new downpipe, larger intercooler and then they remapped the ECU. All of these really ring out the 3.0 liter twin-turbo straight six cylinder.

As a final tweak, they can run the biproduct of all this extra speed through an Akrapovic Evolution Titan exhaust system which has a remote control valve and carbon fiber end pipes.

Summing everything up, the BMW 1 Series M Coupe now produces 450 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque. It’s a boost of nearly 120 horses but there is just one nagging thing to consider.

No mention has been made about the torque curve. We need to know things like this in order to find out what smoothness is available or what kind of lag we can expect.

Still, having more power than an F30 M3, maybe even as much as the next generation F80, in a car that’s this light does sound tempting.

It seems a little weird to even click on something containing the name TJ Fahrzeugdes but if you’re one of the curious folk, you’ll find out something that is almost legendary.

The car we’re talking about this time is a E82 BMW 1 Series. It starts out in life as a humble compact coupe and it is turned into something simply crazy.

It receives a BMW 1 Series M Coupe conversion. Just about every single visual component that would make such a product stand out goes on.

That’s fun, but is it enough to feel special when you’ve got a 1.6 liter naturally aspirated four cylinder engine to drive around in?

No, which is why TJ Fahrzeugdes decided to do an engine swap. Boy did he pick one, he used the 5.0 liter V10 powerplant from the E60 M5.

With a standard tune, that engine developed 507 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. At this point the ECU was fiddled with and another 43 horsepower was added, just to round things off.

Now that they had the power, they had a lot of work to do in trying to make it usable. The gearbox was also taken from the E60 M5. The driveshaft was shortened.

The suspension was entirely redone by the specialists at KW and the brakes come off the much bigger BMW X6M. Sounds like a fascinating conversion with only one thing nagging me.

Is this still a balanced car or did the enormous engine compromise weight distribution.

Can you afford the option of fitting a massive tuning package for your BMW 1 Series M Coupe without asking what it costs?

The questions is available mostly due to the fact that Manhart Racing’s tuning division have made their MH1 S-Biturbo package available for the market.

They’ve done that without announcing the pricing for it. That’s a bit of a concern but the conversion is certainly desirable.

It’s a thorough package with starts off from the beginning as there’s new air guide with a carbon airbox and custom downpipes.

Cooling is also considerably improved because it has to keep the 3.0 liter inline six cylinder engine cooled. When your engine gets pumped up, keeping it from burning out is an issue.

Especially when your car has an extra 125 horsepower than the stock option. What it now has is 465 horsepower and 443 lbs-ft of torque.

There’s just now way you wouldn’t want that in your car. The Manhart MH1 S-BiTurbo kit comes with several aerodynamic tweaks of a minimal construction.

This is both because they’re made out of lightweight carbon fiber as well as because you have to be a major petrolhead to notice them.

Lesson over, let’s get to the driving. You will love the engine and its new output but you’re likely to take notice of the change the Continental Sport Contact 5P tires make as well.

Just in case you want to keep more connected with the mechanics of it all, Manhart fit a new screen inside to show some usable data of the whole thing.

There’s no disappointment in supporting them as they constantly come up with great stuff, particularly the extreme tune-ups of their Hurricane lineup.

That lineup was just expanded to include the wonderful 1 Series M Coupe. The standard car is great and so is this, despite being far from it.

The exterior is pretty much left unchanged and if it weren’t for a new set of alloy wheels, it would be relatively easy to mistake the two cars.

Getting inside either of these models will not feel strange either. The interior of the G-Power one gets a bit of an advantage thanks to Alcantara, a different steering wheel and new seats.

Once you start the engine, things change up. It’s no longer a 1 Series M Coupe that happens to have some bits of the M3.

It’s actually all M3 underneath, everything from engine to rear wheels, SMG transmission included. Great news but it wasn’t enough.

The 4.0 liter naturally aspirated V8 from the E92 also gets a supercharger kit. A few extra mods are needed, among which we count a new airbox but the effort is more than worth it.

That’s because the G-Power G1 V8 1 Series M Coupe develops 600 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque. That power would make an M3 seriously quick, so you can imagine what it does to a 1M.

Performance figures call for a 4.4 second 0 to 62 time (mostly because of a tricky launch) and a top speed of 205 mph.

Enough said.

That’s what we’re looking at in this piece, a BMW 1 Series M Coupe “by BEST”. Can it live up to the name or are we once again dealing with a tuner that doesn’t know when to curb its enthusiasm?

Having taken a quick look at some renderings of what the German tuner’s product will end up looking like it’s fairly safe to assume that things are going pretty well.

There’s no messing about, no ruining of the original concept. There’s also not that much work done to the aesthetics of the car and, finally, there’s nothing outlandish about it.

In these images the paint might be a little too shiny but in the final product it’ll be up to the customer to pick the finish.

Thankfully the wheels aren’t chromed and though they’re a bit large, they keep a decent presence.

Speaking of which, those are 20 inch SCHMIDT Revolution FS-Line and come with some appropriate tires to suit. Hooking them up to the car is a KW Variant 3 coilover kit suspension setup.

This is probably not needed, but the ECU tune-up and the a stainless steel exhaust system are very nice and make the 425 horsepower now available feel even nicer.

In order to prove just how wrong I am, there’s a tuner out there with this name. It’s based in Florida and they’ve just taken on the BMW 1 Series M Coupe.

What should be considered here is the fact that PSI actually stands for Precision Sport Industries and that there’s a few changes to discuss.

If I’m honest, they’re not the most impressive sorts out there since the engine was left intact. All you get for it is an Akrapovic Evolution titanium exhaust system.

That sounds like the most aggressive idea ever but, in reality, the only thing that addition brings to the equation is more noise.

Not really a bad thing but from there on PSI sort of went the lazy route round the tuning of this car. They fitted a KW Suspension system and list a choice of options for the wheels.

Finally, there’s some aerodynamic work done as there’s a new front lip, trunk spoiler and a Revozport rear 2×2 CF diffuser.

The interior receives an Alcantara M steering wheel and some carbon fiber trim. Overall, the project from PSI doesn’t seem to do that much to the 1 Series M Coupe.

They’ve merely added some tweaks here and there and none of them really seem to have taken that much work to make happen.

The most exciting car BMW made during our time is finally getting an upgrade package from one of the most aggressive tuners out there.

From the outside, the changes don’t showoff the way the underpinnings have been treated. So far, no complaints have appeared because of this.

Just a few decals have been used and they actually look like tribal paint African warriors would quickly put on before hitting the fight.

And boy can this white African fight. The 3.0 liter straight six twin-turbocharged engine can now flex its muscles beyond the M3’s capabilities.

According to G-Power it’s now capable of pushing out 435 horsepower and 435 lb-ft of torque. This was achieved using reshaped pipes, titanium exhaust and an ECU remap.

The reshaped exhaust, the special material used in particular lost some weight. 44 lbs have been dropped and there’s more to consider.

In order to make sure you keep the car in check G-Power tuning fitted 20 Silverstone alloys with Michelin sports tires.

Underneath those enormous wheels G-Power used new brakes with six piston calipers and enormous 396 mm rotors up front.

At this point the overall change is easy to spot. Going from 0 to 62 mph takes no more than 4.5 seconds, with the top speed going as far as 186 mph.

This should be one wild ride and it’s obvious that G-Power didn’t disappoint. We weren’t expecting it but the 1 Series is such a favorite of the crowd it’s easy to get trapped working on it.
