One side effect of this is the slightly mellower sound of the engine.

With the new generation of 3 and 4 Series, BMW decided to make sure the sound is still aggressive enough by enhancing it with through the speaker system. Some of the more purist fans of BMW, however, thought this was an insult, and might even got as far as to argue that the car maker has ruined the legacy with the new BMW M4.

Well, if you don’t like what BMW is offering, you can now go to Akrapovic and grab a nice new Evolution exhaust system. As every exhaust from the aftermarket specialist, this one sounds awesome, and it even comes with Evolution Racewerks Competition catless downpipes, for those few extra horses. This feature is not a boon in itself, but rather a way to mask one of the traits lost in this generation.

The sound of the engine in the 3 and 4 Series is a bit on the weak side, and the fanbase was quick to react to this. Even the M Division variants don’t do a better job at emitting crowd pleasing sounds. So then you are left with either accepting the synthetic sounds BMW put in or to go outside the brand and search for a new exhaust.

Luckily, Akrapovic is always happy to provide, and now they have teased the exhaust solution for the BMW M4. While the pictures provided are nice, I would have been far more satisfied with a few seconds of sweet engine sound. But the sound files and specs are yet to be released.

A supercharger could be the first choice for most, but for this BMW M5 owner, the first and only performance upgrade was an Akrapovic exhaust system.

Now don’t get me wrong, this upgrade has its merits, as it not only changes the soundtrack of the best, but also adds some horses while reducing weight. Thus, with the Akrapovic Titanium Evolution exhaust system, the BMW M5 delivers 572 Hp and 740 Nm of torque, while reducing the weight of the car by 10.5 kg.

And, as you might have noticed, that is not all that the Bimmer is sporting, as the owner deemed necessary to drape the car in a special paint job, all centered around the company that brought the exhaust. Of course, a lot more could have been done tot he car, considering it will take part in the 2014 goldRush rally, but even if it won’t be the most powerful beast out there, it will turn heads with the looks.

It can be so fun that you might want to share the joy with others, but watching from afar doesn’t really portray the situation properly.

Unless you install a high grade aftermarket exhaust system, which will provide a soundtrack worthy of action films and definitely good enough for showing off. Of the many tuners out there, Akrapovic has been know to dabble in such things on occasion so why not install their Evolution Line product on your F10 BMW M5?

Apart from lack of funding, I seriously can’t think of a good enough reason. Not after I’ve seen the video put together by the tuner. And as most exhaust systems out there, it’s not just for show, as it also brings in 10 additional Hp and 17 Nm of torque, while shedding 10 kg of the car’s total weight.

Along with the audio files, both for the standard exhaust and the Akrapovic Evolution system, the aftermarket specialists also delivered a very nice little video showcasing their new product.

The Evolution exhaust system from Akrapovic is made from high grade materials like austenitic stainless steel and carbon fiber. Featuring two central pipes and a new design for the muffler, the exhaust system will also be using dual mode valves that will produce a standard sound at low rpm while delivering shivers at high rpm.

Over the stock system, the Akrapovic Evolution exhaust brings an improvement of 7 Hp and 11 Nm of torque while also reducing the weight by almost 1 kg. And the video presentation really outlines the best this product has to offer.

Inspired by past projects, like the Dakar Yellow M3, the owner of this 1M had a lot put into the car.

First off, the power output was increased thanks to a Stage 2 Manhart Racing kit, an Akrapovic exhaust system, IPE donwpipes and a Revolution Charge pipe. The BMW 1M sits atop 19 inch BBS RID wheels draped in Michelin tires.

For the exterior aspect, a full M Performance body kit was installed, with a lot of the panels being made of carbon fiber, like the trunk spoiler, diffuser, roof, mirrors and front grille. On the inside, the yellow BMW 1M has seen improvements in the form of a BMW Performance steering wheel, AC Schnitzer pedals and carbon back seats.

It is nice the see the tuning community inspired by great projects, as they spawn many more beautiful vehicles, like this BMW 1M.

And to this end, many car owners, when it comes to tuning their ride, are keen on making a better sound driving down the street.

I caught wind of such a tuned out ride. A BMW E92 M3, to be more precise. So where is the sound coming from, what has been done to it?

First off, the ECU got an upgrade, so the 4.6 liter Stroker engine would be a little more aggresive. But what goes fast idealy must have a good braking system, so a Brembo kit was applied. The sound is delivered to us compliments of an Akrapovic Evolution Titanium Exhaust system.

All sorts of other pieces were added to make this the owners dream car: AFE air filter, BMW Performance steering wheel, RPI ram air scoops, Michelin Sport tires, Vorsteiner diffuser and so on. For a taste of how this dream project sounds, you can find out here.

In order to prove just how wrong I am, there’s a tuner out there with this name. It’s based in Florida and they’ve just taken on the BMW 1 Series M Coupe.

What should be considered here is the fact that PSI actually stands for Precision Sport Industries and that there’s a few changes to discuss.

If I’m honest, they’re not the most impressive sorts out there since the engine was left intact. All you get for it is an Akrapovic Evolution titanium exhaust system.

That sounds like the most aggressive idea ever but, in reality, the only thing that addition brings to the equation is more noise.

Not really a bad thing but from there on PSI sort of went the lazy route round the tuning of this car. They fitted a KW Suspension system and list a choice of options for the wheels.

Finally, there’s some aerodynamic work done as there’s a new front lip, trunk spoiler and a Revozport rear 2×2 CF diffuser.

The interior receives an Alcantara M steering wheel and some carbon fiber trim. Overall, the project from PSI doesn’t seem to do that much to the 1 Series M Coupe.

They’ve merely added some tweaks here and there and none of them really seem to have taken that much work to make happen.

The 335i kit wasn’t hardcore enough to impress the same way the BMW 1 Series M Coupe’s makeover stood out from the crowd.

Without talking it up or anything, it seems that the German tuner genuinely delivered what was needed this time.

To begin with, the Alpha-N BMW M3 looks bad enough to be Batman’s spare car. Better still, in order to achieve this effect, no explosions were used.

Exterior mods are limited to a body kit, a set of new wheels and a rear wing that seems to be suspiciously similar to the one found on the M3 GTS.

Speaking of which, thanks to a new exhaust system from Akrapovic and an ECU remap the 4.0 liter V8 now develops 450 horsepower, the same as the track day version of the car.

Those 19 inch O.Z. Superforgiata alloy wheels are as light as possible and since they’re teamed to Michelin Pilot Sport Cup, grip and handling should not be a problem.

Not that it was in the original car to start with but if you add some grip, some downforce and reduce the unsprung weight, there’s certainly no room for complaint on wheel turns right?

Some extra pounds are lost on the interior, most of which come from ditching the electric seats of the original in favor of some racing buckets from the “hard to get” Recaro Pro Racer Hans range.

It’s not a new product based on the 6 Series but a bit of a showoff moment and a reminder, all rolled into a new promo video of the Alpina B6 Bi-Turbo.

As far as we can tell, nothing on the car has changed since the Geneva Motor Show unveil but we do get to know what it’s like.

Actually, that’s not the case, while we’re told a lot about how awesome driving one of these incredible GT models, we’re also thought we can’t find out what it’s like until we drive one.

That always did sound very tempting but I reckon Alpina aren’t so eager as to allow test drives for all of us who fancy a B6 Bi-Turbo even though it might not fit the budget.

We can at least be thankful for the beautiful imagery of the Alpina B6 in action and the glorious noise it emits when the throttle isn’t in a relaxed position.

That twin-turbo V8 engine may churn out 540 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque but the sound is what will certainly leave us marked.

We’ll have to thank the guys at Akrapovic for the glorious titanium exhaust system they’ve created specifically for Alpina and their B6 Bi-Turbo system.

I have to say though, I was hoping to see it in a different color, the dark blue they’ve been displaying so far is good, but it’s yet to blow my mind.
