Also, the Z4 GTE is the successor of Z4 GT3, which was one of the best racing cars last years. We know that E92 BMW M3 GT has won many titles (won 7 races) in the ALMS championships and it will leave the Z4 GTE for the next challenges.

Jens Marquardt said that they are focussing on the BMW Z4 because the Z4 GT3 has been a very good racing car in the ALMS since 2009.

The BMW Z4 GTE is based on its predecessor Z4 GT3, which was one good racing car for the GT3 championships. It was specially produced for this competition, ALMS.

BMW Motorsport will use the new Z4 GTE to compete for the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing this year 2013.

The season will start on March 16 and the BMW Z4 GTE will be driven by some professional racing drivers: Bill Auberlen, Dirk Mueller and Joey Hand.

If you have managed to get yourself an older generation E85 model and you still have some money lying around to spare, you can easily get some serious bang for your buck.

There are quite a few modifications you can do for yourself but there’s also some packages you can get from seriously big names in the industry.

It wasn’t so long ago that German tuner AC Schnitzer were making their ACS4 kit for the E85 BMW Z4 and they weren’t very expensive.

Prices ranged depending on what you wanted to do, they would even make parts for the somewhat rarer coupe version of your car.

In terms of performance, there’s not much to consider. The ACS4 kit only comes with a 3.91 : 1 rear axle ratio and some aero tweaks.

The ratio change improves acceleration at the detriment of top speed whereas the aerodynamics only really work at the higher end.

Perhaps you should focus on the aesthetic bits for your E85 BMW Z4 and think about stuff like wheel and tire setups rather than anything else.

You can have 20 inch alloy wheels, performance tires and, if you really feel like it, a set of upgraded brakes. These are very difficult to justify when there’s no added performance and you’re on a budget.

Either way, an AC Schnitzer BMW will still have presence when it comes to rolling around town, not race tracks.

The people who actually work on the tuning packages they create haven’t spent a moment on thinking about the name and instead had a go at changing the BMW Z4.

Changing may actually be to strong a word for the circumstance, the changes going on in the brand might seem more substantial than the Z4 tune’s changes.

There are now performance changes. As far as we know there are no interior changes either. There aren’t even any new toys to consider.

In fact, SR Auto have taken a lesson from the neglect BMW have been given the Z4 and updated it with a couple of minimalist changes to the exterior.

Last time BMW had a go, they offered new colors for the convertible hardtop. SR Auto, on the other hand, have created a new option for you with the whole paint job and the wheels.

You can now have it in a Black that’s not matte yet seems to absorb the light around it with ease and a new set of two tone alloys.

These are 20 inch rims with a CEC C882 design that have been painted (powder coated?) in Vibrant Red and Gunmetal Silver.

It’s quite the nice effect but we honestly thing there are still plenty of tweaks the tuning world can offer the BMW Z4.

The newest we’re getting to see is made by Rowen Japan (can you guess what country they’re from?) and it’s a package called the White Wolf.

I will admit, it’s does have a bit of a ricing/tuning enthusiast teen, look to it but there’s some kind of justification to it.

Firstly, it comes from Japan. That’s a country where each detail can be more appreciated than the full overall look of the whole car.

From what we can tell the White Wolf is a decently highlighted version of the E89 Z4. No longer is it a subtle mix between a GT car and a roadster, it’s now a completely fun loving toy.

The package is made up of a brand new lower body kit, new 19 inch alloy wheels both of which come with some contrasting black accents.

That’s basically the shortlist, if you’re not a very big fan of the LED lights, front splitter and other aero tweaks that aren’t immediately apparent.

No word on any sort of interior tweaks or engine mods being available but if you’re going to drive through a congested city like Tokyo, you’ll not need them.

You will want the comfy seats of the standard BMW Z4 and you’ll find that the power of both the 2 liter and the 3 liter turbocharged engines is too much to use.

Take for example Tuningwerk. They’re not even the most popular tuner around but even they have some incredible products to consider.

The Tuningwerk NR Z4s is something of great idealism; it retains the relatively discrete look of the BMW Z4 yet it’s dripping the menace of performance.

Here are the highlights on performance. The 3.0 liter 6 cylinder twin-turbocharged engine now develops 550 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque.

The power boost is so consistent that the tuner has had to even do a few modifications to the dual-clutch automatic transmission in the Z4.

Speaking of modifications, we’re not told exactly what they are to make these changes happen. That’s a little unpleasant but we couldn’t care less because of the figures.

Thanks to all that grunt and mods, acceleration from 0 to 62 takes 3.7 seconds and the top speed now goes beyond 192 mph.

Mind you, in order to achieve these figures you’ll need to run 98 octane fuel. Still, it’s a minor trade off.

Oh and don’t worry about the rest of the car. The BMW Z4 chassis can easily take the power and the brakes have been upgraded and, if desired, carbon ceramic ones can be fitted.

The German sense of responsibility goes even further as Tuningwerk even offer the option of a direct handover of the NR Z4s which includes driver training.

Buying an old one of these cars is actually quite accessible and then you’ll have to do something to it so that it keeps up with the new E89 powerhouse.

Who else could you turn to if you wanted more power from your BMW if not German specialist G-Power? Call them up and look into their SK Plus package.

Assuming you’ve got yourself the proper roadster, the 3.0 liter straight six cylinder powered version of the Z4, you can have some extra grunt.

The G-Power SK Plus package is inspired by the sort of engine mods the tuner fits to their infamous Hurricane RR and imply the fitting of a Sporty Drive supercharger system.

What that entices is that the BMW Z4 now has 286 horsepower under its bonnet and 254 lb-ft of torque will pull you along.

That’s a bump of 55, respectively 41, over the standard model. 20 inch light alloy wheels and Michelin sporty tires is what will also contribute to the speed.

The latter will also be helpful to the handling package. Since G-Power also fit an adjustable coilover suspension package, there’s probably no complaints to consider.

An untouched version of the standard chassis will almost certainly handle the power boost, but going from 0 to 62 in just 5.4 seconds is always a good reason to sharpen a car up.

Finally, there’s a few cosmetic bits to consider but even so, G-Power charges as little as 4000 USD for the BMW Z4 package.

Just as long as it has the double Ds of that beautiful 3.0 liter twin-turbo straight six cylinder engine under the bonnet.

To me, it’s one of the finest cars you can have fun with. To some however, it needs something extra, an edge, if you will.

Which is what the Germans at LSD Tuning are offering it with two new features that are for sale at their stable.

That new set of sporty five spoke alloy wheels is lovely, but not very imaginative. The same can not be said about the doors.

Butterfly, scissor, whatever you want to call them, these new gates are pretty much the ultimate show off tool you can have on any car.

Naturally, they fit the BMW Z4 beautifully. Since however the LSD Tuning developers are German, they go about doing things the most boring way possible.

Those stunning doors have been built to aircraft grade precision and yet they’ve received a TUV Parts Certificate from the authorities.

Not only do the new LSD Tuning doors look great on the BMW Z4, they represent no compromise on the health and safety aspects of the car.

They’re cool, but they’re strong and reinforced in order to maintain the original passenger compartment rigidity. Further more, the LSD Tuning BMW Z4 features reversible hinges.

No metal is cut or modified in order to make the fitting possible. It sounds boring but it’s actually a bit of an engineering accomplishment.

The Germans have worked their magic once again and though this package looks substantially different from the one you get as standard, the Hartge Z4 still feels like a Bavarian product.

And if you reckon the look is something to admire, the technology underneath it is probably going to be soothing.

Under the bonnet, Hartge offers up special package s for the sDrive35i and the sDrive35is packages (the sDrive28i is the one that’s missing).

The mid range six cylinder engine goes from the standard 306 horsepower up to 340. The torque figure is also improved and now stands at 369 lb-ft.

The more potent version of the same engine starts at 340 horsepower but goes all the way up to 401, with a new torque figure standing at 391 lb-ft.

Everything was simply achieved thanks to an ECU remap and a new exhaust kit. At least the handling package does feature a new suspension.

From here on we get to that body I was talking about earlier. It’s much better looking than ever before and it’s complete.

The Hartge BMW Z4 gets a fresh front spoiler and
HARTGE lip for boot lid as well as a few other more upgrades that are trickier to spot.

Inside the Hartge BMW Z4 E89 there’s a liberal use of fine materials, aluminium polished bits and a further refined level of leather.

Us folks interested in proper roadsters like the BMW Z4 are more likely to appreciate a proper sports car engine than the diesel one in that.

BMW’s turbocharged 3.0 liter straight six cylinder at the top of the Z4 range is the object of this tuning kit AC Schnitzer have cooked up.

The 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque version gets tuned up to 360 horsepower and a 383 lb-ft of torque so you know the N54 powerplant is ringed all the way up.

Well, not all the way up since the same basic engine can go from 340 hp and 331 lb-ft in the S version gets pushed up to 380 hp and the same kind of torque.

Alongside the performance upgrades, the BMW Z4 also gets a revised body kit from AC Schnitzer. There are some aesthetic changes but the most important role they play is in improving the handling.

Also offering the same blend between looks and a technical use we find the new alloy wheels and the performance tires that are wrapped around it.

The alloys are available in sizes ranging from 18 to 20 inches, serve up various styles and will all make sure you feel every bump in the road.

Dislocating your kidneys doesn’t sound like too much fun but driving one of these AC Schnitzer prepped BMW Z4s actually is.

Well, on smooth roads at least.

There’s plenty with more performance and there’s plenty with more aggressive body kits but the AC Schnitzer ACS 99d is miles more impressive.

This is because it gets a new (and unexpected) engine and it also loses a whopping 507 pounds off what is already a decently lightweight vehicle.

The first part is taken care of as AC Schnitzer have dropped the engine originally fitted by the factory and opted for the one you get in the 320d EfficientDynamics Edition.

Well known as an incredibly efficient powerplant, AC Schnitzer have taken it one point further and while they were at it they made it a little more powerful as it now develops 190 horsepower.

Team that up with a new body kit that’s made completely out of carbon fiber, the reduction of unsprung weight and the fitting of 19″ lightweight alloy wheels with titanium bolts and you get a lot of benefits.

Lighter weight, better distribution of what’s left and even better fuel economy levels. It is also part of helping the handling.

That’s where the revised AC Schnitzer suspension, new brakes and Continental Sport Contact high performance tires help finish the thing off.

The end result is that the AC Schnitzer ACS 99d is a sports car which goes from 0 to 62 in 6.9 seconds yet only consumes 3.8 l of fuel per 100 km and emits less than 99 g of CO2 per km.

This is the sort of efficiency that is impressive even in horrid little eco-boxes let alone great handling and fun sport cars.
