In fact, it’s so subtle, that I’d like to let you look at the pictures and spot the differences between this car and the original one. The wheels, maybe? Yes, the rims, which seem to be taken from the BMW M4 GTS, but with a little reserve. They’re the same weight conscious M light alloy wheels, 666 M styling, but not painted in the same Acid Orange from the GTS.

Instead, they’re all silvery, making a good team with the Mineral Gray body paint. Also, if you look closely, you’ll find that the front wheels of this EAS-tuned M4, are bigger than the GTS’ ones. In this case, all the 4 wheels have the same 20” diameter, which is bigger than the 19” wheels at the front axle of the GTS. This adds a certain bold look to the EAS model, which I really like.
However, even in this example, the wheels aren’t quite identical. The rear wheels are 10j x 20, meaning they’re wider than the 9j x 20 inches front ones, for extra grip when accelerating and cornering.

Enough with the wheels. What else is new? The side badges on the front fenders. And that’s about it. There’s, also, the well-known Competition Package, which adds lots of carbon fiber elements, for an exquisite looks and light weight. After all, it seems that EAS added only a set of gorgeous wheels. But, let’s face it: they look awesome!

“Only two models?”, probably thought BMW. “Let’s make another one!”. So, they started working at a new racing model, called M4 GT4. Basically, it’s going to be a BMW M4 tuned by the factory itself. Obviously, the base will be the 425 hp and 550 Nm BMW M4, which will be modified to be even lighter.

The Bavarians will replace the engine bonnet and the doors, with carbon fiber ones, adding race aero elements and a bespoke exhaust. Inside the cockpit, the seats and pedals will be borrowed from the M6 GT3. The brakes will also come from the bigger brother. Unfortunately, there will be no engine upgrade, the M4 GT4 sticking to the same twin-turbo, 425 hp, inline-six powertrain of the original M4.

After presenting the new racer, the BMW specialists will throw it on the track, together with opponents from the GT4 category. The BMW’s aim is to produce an affordable car, that can take the start at races in Europe, North America and Asia, taking benefits over the increasing attention of the public. Even more interesting is the potential car’s success, for the private BMW teams, which is expected to transform it into a bestseller.

Let’s start with the body. In front, the light carbon elements of the bumper, weighing only 400 g, can be used alone, or in combination with the rest of the body kit. Getting to the stage two, a racing front splitter is added, to improve the downforce and, therefore, the stability. Finally, the stage three implies the presence of 4 front side wings, which help the air flow pushing even more the front axle to the ground.

Moving back, we find the carbon fiber mirror caps, while in the rear, the carbon fiber diffuser, the spoiler, the carbon rear wing (which is available in two height versions) and the roof spoiler add extra downforce, this time on the rear axle.

I intentionally left the AC1, 20 inch forged wheels at the end, because they look so impressive with their bespoke design. They can be ordered either in Anthracite, or in BiColor scheme. There are even more wheel designs available in the offer, ranging from 19 to 21 inches.

Onboard, the AC Schnitzer elements, including the pedal set, the foot rest, the gear knob with digital gear display, the handbrake handle, the key holder and the iDrive Controller cover add sportiveness and elegance.

However, a good part of the show is under the bonnet, where the engine output is increased from 431 to 510 hp, while the torque received 95 Nm extra, reaching 645 Nm. The increased performance is in par with the powerful sound of the AC Schnitzer exhaust, with sound pipe or without it, in the export. Let’s stay under the car, to find the lowered suspension, by 25-50 mm at the front, and 10-15 mm at the rear, or even the more radical suspension, which lowers the care by 40 mm, respectively 30 mm.

The conclusion is that AC Schnitzer provides everything the customers need, in a beautiful, aggressive package, without being too ostentatious. Why searching elsewhere?

What’s the best way to have a different looking car? Surely, you have to paint it in an original color. Or, at least, wrap it in a color full of personality. Well, that’s what these guys did: they took a BMW X5M and dressed it in blue. Not any kind of blue, but a Long Beach Blue-like, to transform it in a proper M-version of the X5 model.

Who are these guys? European Auto Source is their name, and they are known as trusted BMW tuners. They chose a new set of wheels, which joins the two colors of the body: black and blue. Under the car, there’s a new, louder Eisenmann Race exhaust system, which adds some ponies to the 575 stud of horses.

The exhaust is the only modification brought to the V8, twin-turbo engine, so we expect a torque in the vicinity of the original 750 Nm, and an acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h of 4.2 seconds, just like the factory version.

So, do you like it? I must admit that I’m still looking at it, and I can’t decide what I feel. It looks interesting, but it’s a little too flashy for my tastes. However, when you pay about $100.000 for a car, you have all the right to personalize it however you wish, without wondering what others think about it.

This time, though, it’s different. It’s a dynamic subject, a comparison, and today it won’t be any winner. At least, I will avoid to say my opinion, mainly because it’s a matter of taste. Anyway, the truth is that the 3 liter turbocharged engine sounds superb through any exhaust.

The verdict will be even more difficult, because of the celebrity of the three brands involved in this comparison. The first one is Akrapovic. I don’t know how exactly what’s the best way to describe this company, but, instead, I’ll say that, traditionally, they manufacture exhausts for motorcycles, and only recently they started working on automobiles. They’re best known for equipping a few teams from Moto GP, superbike and supersport. And, maybe the thing that no one knows, Akrapovic is a Slovenian brand!

Next – the world leader in sport exhausts. Their story is impressive: in 26 years, they managed to be present in 60 countries, starting from only 5 employees. In only three years from the beginning, the company built a production area of 12.000 square meters!

Finally, the last exhaust system comes from the Motorsport division of BMW. Yes, it’s the stock exhaust, and we know it’s an impressive sounding system.

Which one is the greatest, and more interesting – does it worth replacing the original exhaust system with an aftermarket one? You’ll decide!

On this occasion, two special versions of the M5 top-model have been announced. The first one belongs to BMW factory, and it’s called “Competition Edition”. It takes all the good stuff from the regular M5, adding lots of extra features. Technically, the Bavarian specialists added extra pressure in the turbos, while remapping the ECU. The result is an impressive 600 hp and 700 Nm of torque, good enough to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.

Anyway, is the second variant that we’re more interested in. It’s the proposal made by Speedbuster, and it makes the Competition Edition look…well…underpowered?!? And we’re speaking about 600 hp, for God’s sake! The red beast is called BMW M5 LCI, and it boasts 695 hp and 844 Nm of torque! There isn’t any information about the car’s acceleration, but I don’t think there’s a major improvement over the 3.9 seconds of the factory’s special edition. That’s simply because the rear wheel drive reaches its grip limits, and a big improvment is impossible. However, the real benefit is achieved on the highway, where the extra 95 hp feel brutal.

Was it necessary? We don’t know. We know, however, that the 999 Euro cost is fair, if we keep in mind that it includes 2 year warranty for the engine. Even more, for 50 Euro extra, you get the possibility of enabling and disabling the chip tuning, using a smartphone app.

Whay I want to propose is seat back for 2 minutes and imagine how would perform a BMW 1-Series Sedan, if it would become reality. It would probably be pushed by the powerful 3-liter, inline-6 powertrain from the M2, good enough for 370 hp @ 6500 rpm, and 500 Nm @ 1450 – 4750 rpm. It would, probably, accelerate a few tenths slower than the 4.3 seconds coupe, and the chassis rigidity would suffer a bit, but nothing to worry about. This could be a hit on the Chinese market, since those guys are crazy about the one-of-a-kind cars, made especially for them.

Have we dreamt enough? I hope so, because, unfortunately, this scenario is totally not plausible. And I’ll explain why that’s not going to happen: as BMW specialists announced us, the 1-Series Sedan is based on the UKL1 platform, shared with the 2-Series Active Tourer and Gran Tourer and the latest generation of X1 SUV. This mean, amongst some positive characteristics, that it also shares its front wheel drive or, optionally, the all wheel drive layout. And when have we seen an M variant to move anything else than the rear wheels? Never. So, let’s stick to admiring the rendering and wake up!

It wouldn’t be a major technological breakthrough, but it would bring some advantages in aerodynamics and, probably, convenience. It looks to be production – ready, and now, with the latest legislation in Japan, the BMW specialists could equip the sports car with side cameras on the Nippon market.

How efficient are those cameras? It’s enough to say that there are three, two of them on each side, one on the rear window, and each one of them is wide angle. The images captured by the cameras are projected on a 300 x 85 centimeters screen, mounted in the center of the windscreen. It is placed where the lowest rearview mirror would stay, letting enough space to observe the traffic lights and the cars in front. But, looking at the pictures, we have to say – it’s pretty big.

Surely – the system keeps all the characteristics from the rearview mirrors – including the blind spot detection. The parking guide lines are also displayed on the screen, adding convenience to manoeuvres. The scratches aren’t a problem for the cameras, as they feature Gorilla glass. Even more, you won’t have to worry about the muck, because of the clear coating.

So will it be produced? There’s no word about it. Probably not. But, in the end – who knows?

An not only it participates, but its result is absolutely surprising: they say it’s the only F80 BMW M3 equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, that can cover the ¼ mile in just 10.86 seconds. It manages to accelerate so fast, that, at the end of the circuit, it reaches 129 mph (208 km/h).

The car was fast from the beginning, producing 431 hp and 550 Nm from its V6, 3 liter turbocharged engine. In standard configuration, the M3 reaches 62 mph in just 4.3 seconds. But that’s not our case. Our case is a proper monster, upgraded by Jordan from RK-Tunes and flash tuned with a BMS JB4. It also received a new pair of turbos from Xona Rotor Green Turbochargers.

There’s not much to talk about the result. It’s enough to watch the clip, to understand that there’s no if or maybe in the sentence containing the elements M3, ¼ mile and under 11 seconds. Will it be a further development in the future? No one can tell, especially knowing that the clutch is pretty stressed. But the fact that pushing the car with such a force while having only one clutch, therefore counting the lost times between the gear changes, it’s a nice accomplishment and it deserves our applause!

It sounds absolutely mind blowing, with all those crackles and bangs, and it looks as aggressive as any other Akrapovic exhaust. But there aren’t the only benefits of the exhaust system. It’s also lighter than the original system, managing to get rid of 6.1 kilograms, thanks to the lightweight titanium construction.

Another benefit of the new exhaust is the gain of power. Paired with this particular 3 liter turbo engine, it brings an extra 8.8 hp, which may not seem sensational, but in a one-on-one challenge, this is a major advantage. And not only in this situation, but also in the fast curves, taken close to the redline. Those who like the middle range revs, will appreciate the increased torque by 7.1 Nm, thanks to the less restrictive exhaust system.

Add these numbers to the 370 hp and the 465 Nm and you’ll have the image of a very fast car, capable of accelerating as impressive as it sounds. In standard configuration, it does 100 km/h in just 4,3 seconds, but giving the fact that the new system is both lighter and less restrictive, we expect slightly improved values.

This exhaust system is a good choice for the BMW M2 owners, and, thanks to its advantages, it will probably be one of the most popular aftermarket exhaust amongst the M2 owners. And if we look at the Akrapovic heritage, this thing seems like a real winner!
