In today’s piece we’ll be looking at one of their widebody setups, one that’s custom tailored around the previous gen 5 Series.

Prior Design E60 BMW 5 Series

As usual with such conversions, there have been replacements made to the front and rear bumpers, the front fenders are wider and there are rear wheel arch extensions.

So what makes this version of a wide body 5 Series stand out from the crowd? That’s a tricky one, if you’re standing in a crowd of 5 Series wide body kits.

Even so, the Prior Design widebody for the E60 toots its own horn with build quality. Apart from being assembled like a… well, BMW, it is made with top notch materials.

Prior Design E60 BMW 5 Series

The core material used in this car is something described by the German tuner as high quality Dura-Flex FRP. We’re guessing it’s some sort of clever plastic.

Wouldn’t want to go too much into the details as speaking to a German who can pronounce something like that would probably be suicide by boredom.

Prior Design’s wide body kit also receives a vented bonnet, complete with power dome and M3 hints all around and a new boot lid spoiler.

Prior Design E60 BMW 5 Series

It’s a discrete one, just in case somebody doesn’t spot the body kit setup you used.

Frankly, there is a bit of a chance of that happening since the paint finish chosen here is very business like and the alloy wheels though they are black, they seem restrained.

It seems a little weird to even click on something containing the name TJ Fahrzeugdes but if you’re one of the curious folk, you’ll find out something that is almost legendary.

TJ Fahrzeugdesign E82 BMW 1 Series M Coupe

The car we’re talking about this time is a E82 BMW 1 Series. It starts out in life as a humble compact coupe and it is turned into something simply crazy.

It receives a BMW 1 Series M Coupe conversion. Just about every single visual component that would make such a product stand out goes on.

That’s fun, but is it enough to feel special when you’ve got a 1.6 liter naturally aspirated four cylinder engine to drive around in?

TJ Fahrzeugdesign E82 BMW 1 Series M Coupe

No, which is why TJ Fahrzeugdes decided to do an engine swap. Boy did he pick one, he used the 5.0 liter V10 powerplant from the E60 M5.

With a standard tune, that engine developed 507 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. At this point the ECU was fiddled with and another 43 horsepower was added, just to round things off.

Now that they had the power, they had a lot of work to do in trying to make it usable. The gearbox was also taken from the E60 M5. The driveshaft was shortened.

TJ Fahrzeugdesign E82 BMW 1 Series M Coupe

The suspension was entirely redone by the specialists at KW and the brakes come off the much bigger BMW X6M. Sounds like a fascinating conversion with only one thing nagging me.

Is this still a balanced car or did the enormous engine compromise weight distribution.

As seen on Bimmertoday

Remember the time when tuning cars were something you saw on the street and rarely ever spoke about without being amazed at what it can do?

It’s mostly gone, every major makeover these days is not something the owner of a car talks about but something that hits the internet before its made.

Senner Tuning E60 BMW 5 Series

Thankfully, there are still plenty of companies out there that let their customers stand out by themselves. If you don’t want anybody to know about it or you want to tell them yourself, you need to give these guys a look around the shop.

The German customization specialist churns out a new car almost every week but they hardly ever send out press releases.

Take this E60 5 Series tweak, wouldn’t it have been worth our attention? It doesn’t have a simple look and no performance tweaks and it is still important.

Senner Tuning E60 BMW 5 Series

This is because the look of the E60 5 Series, probably one of the less impressive looking sedans ever to come from Bavaria is enhanced aesthetically.

New blingy alloy wheels distract from the rather un-proportioned profile. The front and rear bumper is now more of a flaming surface than Bangle ever intended.

There are some bad points though. For instance the owner tried to push the M6 badges on the side air vents. The quad exhausts would have been enough for my liking.

Senner Tuning E60 BMW 5 Series

The same applies to the boot lid. Why ruin everything by fitting a huge M badge on something that isn’t from the special ops?

Having said that, it’s tricky to look at a previous model one which receives some tuning from whatever company and say they had a bad starting point.

In the case of the Americans at K3 Project, the E60 M5 starter is pretty much one of the finest of the breed. It’s possibly the most visceral one of the lot.

The Florida-based outfit didn’t stray too far from the tree either. They kept things about as simple as BMW’s discrete styling could a while back.

They’ve fiddled about with the way the E60 M5 looks but in the end it’s very easy to spot it as the same car with a few personal touches rather than a toy rocket drawn up by a child in NFS.

E60 BMW M5 by K3 Project

Carbon fiber bits such as a front lip, large air intake trims and corner spoilers make their way in and bring along a diffuser for the back.

The most dramatic change the E60 BMW M5 gets from K3 is a set of 20 inch wheels from a set they call Projekt 1. Somebody isn’t great at spelling it seems.

Anyway, the wheels are stunning but the tires they ride on seem even more impressive as they are 255 sections for the front and 305 at the back.

E60 BMW M5 by K3 Project

That’s a whole lot of rubber, even if you do have more than 500 horsepower to tame coming from a 5.0 liter naturally aspirated V10.

We must then consider ourselves lucky to see them take on another BMW project, especially one that’s as dear to our hearts as this one.

Vilner Tuning E60 BMW M5

The E60 BMW M5 may be outdated now, but it still has plenty of pace under its bonnet. Therefore, the list of fans is not about to stop soon.

For this particular project, the guys at Vilner didn’t mess about with the glorious 5.0 liter V10 engine or anything that’s part of the underpinnings.

Instead, they’ve focused on the stuff they do best, the decorative treats. The exterior of the E60 M5 gets fresh 20 inch HRE P40 alloy wheels.

Vilner Tuning E60 BMW M5

That’s the only modification that’s halfway technical but otherwise we’re looking at cosmetics, with everything from head to toe being murdered out.

A nice finish, one that can hide some of the E60’s less than impressive lines beautifully. As usual for Vilner, the real treat is to be found inside.

An upgraded leather finish covers everything from the headrest to the door panels and makes the steering wheel and handbrake more pleasant to manage.

Vilner Tuning E60 BMW M5

Finally, the headliner receives an Alcantara cover, the interior trim gets a few carbon fiber touches and you’re ready to go.

We don’t know who the owner of this car is but it’s obvious that he won’t be disappointed the least bit by his new ride.

I usually say some tuning company got misty eyed about an older car when they start doing up any outdated model of a popular vehicle.

That would certainly fit the bill for the G-Power E60 BMW 5 Series. Then again, let’s remind ourselves that we live in the real world.

E60 BMW 5 Series by G-Power

Cars live for much longer than usual here and if that’s the case, why not make your own stand out… or maybe outperform the newest model?

The German tuner has proven time and time again that there’s plenty of technology they have at their disposal to do so. Somehow, that’s not the case.

Whatever the person that contracted the E60 5 Series with G-Power didn’t bother with the performance aspects. The only thing that may help is the custom exhaust system.

E60 BMW 5 Series by G-Power

Some would say the new wheel and tire setup would help the situation but that’s not always the case so let’s not focus on that aspect for now.

The best you can get from that equation is the fact that the amount of un-sprung mass has been considerably reduced.

Of all the changes in this condition, the most important ones of the lot is the removal of the electronic speed limiter.

E60 BMW 5 Series by G-Power

Unless you get some of the more powerful versions of the E60 5 Series, that might not be the most important bit you can get as most will hardly hit 150.

Really, your best option is to enjoy the styling tweaks G-Power blesses you with and try not to notice the asking price for the conversion.

That’s how you can describe the E60 BMW M5 from Wald International. If you want to talk about it at length, you’ll want to focus the chatter around a single idea and that’s aerodynamics. Alongside the more refined looks that come in pretty much guaranteed once you improve on the aerodynamics of the car. Though BMW started the E60 design using the flaming surface ideology and even though most aerodynamic shapes are simpler than that, we’re naturally prone to appreciating flowing

Originally built in Germany, improved upon in Japan, driven in very few places but desired all over the world. That’s how you can describe the E60 BMW M5 from Wald International.

If you want to talk about it at length, you’ll want to focus the chatter around a single idea and that’s aerodynamics.

Wald International E60 BMW M5

Alongside the more refined looks that come in pretty much guaranteed once you improve on the aerodynamics of the car.

Though BMW started the E60 design using the flaming surface ideology and even though most aerodynamic shapes are simpler than that, we’re naturally prone to appreciating flowing forms.

Fluidity is what the E60 is missing out on a few surfaces and it’s what Wald International have tried to bring back to the game.

Wald International E60 BMW M5

Thanks to some clever tricks and studies, teamed with carbon fiber and other bolt on bits. Though the result is what we’d describe as “tastefully done” the changes are quite numerous.

A new front apron, carbon fiber wings, different side skirts and a special rear bumper was used here. A new carbon fiber decklid spoiler is included in the package.

You’d struggle to notice it though, the most obvious of additions made by Wald International on the E60 M5 is actually the replacement of the fog lamps with carbon inlets.

Wald International E60 BMW M5

Those and the Portofino forged alloy wheel set, of course. Should we use this opportunity to remind Wald that there’s a new M5 they could have a look at?

After all, turbos, single or twin are certainly annoying when it comes to smooth delivery or noisy hooning about, especially in tuner cars.

Lumma Design CLR 500 RS BMW M5

Today we’re going to remember a tweaked M5 that had been breathed on by a small company called Lumma Design.

The German tuner rebranded it as something called the CLR 500 RS. RS comes from rally sport but we’re fairly sure nobody will be taking this car through the gravel.

Still, the motorsport components do come in handy. The 5.0 liter V10 engine gets a racing exhaust system with a custom catalytic converter and an ECU remap.

Lumma Design CLR 500 RS BMW M5

Therefore, the enormous engine now develops 560 horsepower. The torque figure is still a little thin compared to the outputs of today’s turbocharged monster.

The 40 mm lowering of the suspension, the 21 inch alloy wheels and the new sports tires are meant to help the handling features and it seems that they do work.

In terms of exterior looks, the body got a new aero package, there’s more downforce, improved cooling and a few carbon fiber bits that look a bit silly but that’s not the most worrying part of the equation.

Lumma Design CLR 500 RS BMW M5

Orange paint is an issue, even with black wheels and accents that’s not the sort of look you want to have on your daily driver.

Lumma Design have also made a red one but that doesn’t really help the effect either. Oh and don’t even get me started on the interior.

As much as the F10 BMW M5 is getting its praises sung, the predecessor model, the E60, seems to be getting ever more of them with each passing day.

There’s a lot of attention turning to the car for plenty of reasons but most are aimed at the death of the E60’s mighty naturally aspirated V10 engine.

E60 BMW M5 military livery

In this case, it’s rather weird but it’s not the 5.0 liter engine that’s the star of the tuning package. Oh no, that’ll be the exterior look.

Oddly enough, the Chris Bangle designed “flaming surface” piece of design is not the most important part of the equation.

That’ll actually be the military livery package they’ve stuck to the exterior of the BMW M5. It’s actually an aviation inspired one, stretching back to World War II.

E60 BMW M5 military livery

It’s not the best setup in the world since the paint scheme used here would have felt more at home on the American side of the wars.

Not that we’re reviving all those old fart jokes and pokes at the big war but it would be rude not to point out that some of the best engines used by German air planes back then were made by BMW.

Since then technology has moved on but it hasn’t reached the point where tuning the 5.0 liter V10 engine would be capable of developing some 1500 horsepower.

E60 BMW M5 military livery

Those would be quite impressive but we’ll settle for the irony of the new look this particular BMW M5 gets.

If I weren’t a bit nostalgic for the “old car” right now I probably wouldn’t be focusing your attention back onto the Vorsteiner package for the E60.

Still, while BMW may have fallen victim to legislation as to what cars they can make, Vorsteiner remained true to their aerodynamic passion.

All the American tuner offers for the BMW M5 in E60 trim is pretty much what they offer for any car around, some carbon fiber made aero bits.

The list here includes a new front aero splitter, different diffuser, slightly bigger rear decklid spoiler and, perhaps the most significant drag reducing bit of them all, the custom floor mats.

I’m not very sure about what’s going on with the new alloy wheels Vorsteiner fitted to the E60 BMW M5 but they seem quite fitting so there’s no need to criticize them.

Vorsteiner E60 BMW M5

Finally, the Vorsteiner tweaked E60 BMW M5 also gets some other tweaks for the radiator grilles, side vents as well as a vented hood.
