With the recent launch of the BMW X3 it was to be expected that it would not take too long before some aftermarket tuner would take interest in the new automotive appearance and try to give it an overhaul. This was exactly the case with Alpina and the new 2018 BMW X3.

You should also check:
– GPEC 2014 will receive BMW latest creation

The new XD3 as it was named is nothing short of fantastic. While it is still in the prototype phase there are plenty to notice just from the outside. The front side of the car has been slightly altered, while the most noticeable change is the pair of brand new rims. The car is noticeably lower than its stock counterpart, which, of course, means it looks and most likely handles more aggressive.

It is worth noting that Alpina has already tweaked a previous version X3. The XD3 concept is known territory for those over at Alpina. The new BMW X3 will most likely include a similar 3 liter double turbocharger diesel engine. As in the case of its predecessor this will probably lead to about 350hp. Will this be enough to make people look towards the new XD3? We will have to wait and see.

The debut of the new 2018 BMW X3 by Alpina will probably take place at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show scheduled for March next year. Until then, we can only speculate as to what the performance – price ratio will be on this particular model. The same can be said about the current color scheme which in its gray form seems rather dull and common.

There are also rumors of completion building a more powerful 2018 X3 variant. BMW M has been reconfiguring the stock X3 into something that might leave the Alpina XD3 in the dust. If the rumors are right and the 450hp X3 rumor is right, then the guys at Alpina will definitely have tough competition. One aspect might prove useful in this battle of the giants: fuel economy.

While it may seem ridiculous, Alpina has also been working on fuel economy strategies to implement in this late 2018 X3 project. As we’ve come to expect, Alpina’s goal is to create a harmony between all aspects of automotive culture within the vehicle itself. If this is also the case, and it most likely is, then the XD3 will probably be oriented towards a public that wants more than just raw power from a beefed up ride.

Among them, we name Manhart, a tuner that managed to push out several kits that improved BMWs in all aspects, but power improvements stand out.

Manhart MHX3 370

The next in line to receive the Manhart special treatment is the BMW X3, or at least that what a teaser photo released by the manufacturer seems to suggest. If we are to believe the badge affixed to the door, this new build will be called MHX3 370, a name that already gives us a lot to think about.

Whith this most likely meaning a 370 Hp output, the implications point toward a very steep bump in power. As a standard xDrive35i version (which is most likely to be used) develops only 306 Hp, Manhart plans a 64 Hp increase. This kind of numbers will definitely raise the bar even for other established aftermarket specialists like Alpina or AC Schnitzer.

Recently, Alpina and Hartge have also tried their hands at the BMW X3, and with great results I might add. So what makes Hamann’s product competitive? While Hartge managed to get truckloads of power out of a certain engine, Hamann only got a few more. But they did work on the entire engine lineup, offering a bit for everyone.

F25 BMW X3 by Hamann

A new ECU can be obtained for the xDrive20i and up to the xDrive35i, while diesel burners also benefit from some meddling, no matter if it’s the xDrive18d model or the xDrive35d. For example, the xDrive35i, the top gasoline unit is tuned by Hamann to a power output of 348 Hp and 450 Nm of torque, up from 306 Hp and 400 Nm.

Hamann also offers custom 21 inch wheels, lowering springs and various trims for the interior. They decided to call this kit their Anniversary Evo.

Well, after Hartge was done, the beast now churns 309 HP and 670 Nm, making for a 51 HP and 110 Nm increase. In order to showcase the capabilities of the new engine tune, a video was also released. The tune really shines at higher speeds, as the 80 km/h to 200 km/h time was cut down from 25.42 to 21.14 seconds.

I say it is unusual because this is the first SUV that they ever worked on.

Alpina BMW XD3

Alpina’s BMW XD3 uses a straight 6 cylinder, twin-turbo diesel engine that displaces 3.0 liters. After fiddling with it, they got it up to 345hp and 700Nm of torque. With the mods and a ZF Switch-Tronic 8-Speed Sport-Automatic gear box, the Alpina BMW XD3 will do 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds and will top at 253km/h.

Alpina BMW XD3

Still, the most impressive features is the fuel consumption, a neat 6.8 liters per 100km. My first car did that only when towed… and it didn’t weigh over 2000 kg. But this isn’t just an over-performing eye sore. Alpina also used on the BMW XD3 their signature “Alpina Blue” paintwork, multi-spoke wheels and two tone sport seats. The contrasting stitching used inside is also a nice touch.

Alpina BMW XD3

German tuner Hartge has just rolled out a new tuning kit, one they’ve prepared especially for the BMW X3 xDrive35d.

What I find particularly interesting about it is that we don’t get any flamboyant press release. There’s no announcement, no shouting launch or anything of the likes.

Hartge BMW X3 xDrive35d

Though it’s a bit of a shame, that’s a brilliant idea. Not all tuning cars should be obvious and BMW products certainly shouldn’t fit the bill for flamboyance.

Since this is the diesel engine, that appeal of flamboyance goes away even further so there’s really no reason for making a fuss.

Despite it being a diesel powerplant, Hartge messed around with its innards a bit in order to produce 362 horsepower and 538 lb-ft of torque.

Hartge BMW X3 xDrive35d

Quite the decent figures for a diesel but we should say that Hartge carefully “forgot” to mention the exact fuel economy the model gets with the new updates.

All we get is a rather uncertain “around half a liter/100 km” so around 35 mpg on the US cycle should still be available from it.

In terms of exterior changes you get almost none. Hartge will provide you with a set of 19 inch alloy wheels (four options are available) and new badges but that’s about it.

That’s not a bad way to go round at it since the F25 BMW X3 looks more than decent for a crossover. The same happens inside.

Hartge BMW X3 xDrive35d

All you get new for the cabin is a set of aluminium panels, custom floor mats and, of course, the optional set of Hartge badges.

It all sounds rather good but we hope to get more photos and details about the Hartge BMW X3 xDrive35d pretty soon.

Thus, the desire to make it stand out is a little more important for the customizing scene so the BMW X3’s presence might not be worthy of a second look.

With the performance aspects being first to considered it’s rather unusual to see the German tuner focus on the diesel powerplants first.

The 2.0d version goes from a standard 184 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque to 218 horsepower and the 3.0d version goes from 258 horsepower to 413 lb-ft of torque.

AC Schnitzer BMW X3

So the BMW X3 gets more grunt under the bonnet without compromising its fuel economy but somehow, AC Schnitzer still didn’t tell us too much about the petrol ones.

New alloy wheels between 18 and 22 inches are available, along with new tires but no word on suspension changes are mentioned.

If I’m honest that’s a pretty good think. Losing some of the comfort with the wheels is already enough, we don’t need an even harder suspension than the one BMW fits at the factory.

AC Schnitzer BMW X3

What I do approve of however is the AC Schnitzer redesigned aerodynamic setup. It consists of a full body kit a new rear window spoiler.

The whole thing looks great, and the AC Schnitzer decals that sitting on the rear doors are well appointed.
